Eighteen months ago, Ash was a beginner who didn't know much about fitness .
On Saturday, 25 July 2026, the 57-year-old from Klang crossed the finish line of REDLINE, Malaysia's largest functional fitness race, in 48 minutes and 41 seconds.
Let that sink in. A woman who had never trained a day in her life, a working wife and a mother of two college-age kids, took on 12 brutal fitness stations built to test power, strength and endurance, alongside thousands of athletes half her age. And she finished.
This is her story. And if you have ever told yourself you are too old, too busy, or too far gone to start, it is one you need to read.
Where It Began: Feeling Weak in Her Own Life
When she started with us, she was completely inactive. No exercise background at all. Under the guidance of her coach, Nazrul, her first sessions were the basics of the basics: learning to squat with just her bodyweight, one careful rep at a time. Ash did not come to us chasing a medal. She came because she felt weak.
She wanted to be strong enough to help her husband. She wanted to keep up with her kids. Simple, everyday things had started to feel harder than they should, and she was tired of feeling like her body was letting her down.
When she started with us, she was completely inactive. No exercise background at all. Her first sessions were the basics of the basics: learning to squat with just her bodyweight, one careful rep at a time.
That is where everyone starts. That is where she started.
The Quiet Power of One Hour
Here is the part that stuck with us.
For Ash, the one hour she spends in the gym is not a chore. It is her happiest hour of the day. It is the one hour that belongs to her, away from work, away from the household, away from everyone else's needs. Just her, her coach, and the work.
Between running a home, holding down a job, and raising her family, she found something most people half her age still search for: time for herself that actually makes her stronger.
That mindset is what carried her from bodyweight squats to a competition floor. Just her, her coach Nazrul, and the work.
Eighteen Months From Beginner to REDLINE
REDLINE is not a gentle introduction to fitness. It is a gamified functional fitness race with 12 workout stations against the clock, and it draws everyone from first-timers to serious athletes across two days at MIECC.
For a beginner it is daunting. For a 57-year-old who could not squat 18 months ago, it should have been impossible.
It was not. Ash trained, showed up, and put in the work week after week. Squats became stronger. Strength turned into endurance. Endurance turned into the confidence to sign up for one of the toughest fitness events in the country. And on race day, she finished it in 48:41.
What Ash Proves About Age
We work with adults aged 40 to 80 every day, and we say this constantly: you are not too old, and it is not too late. Ash is the living proof.
She did not have special genetics. She did not have hours of free time. She had a busy life, a late start, and a reason to begin. What she added was consistency and the right guidance, and 18 months later she did something most people never will, at any age.
If a 57-year-old Klang mum can go from her first bodyweight squat to the REDLINE finish line, the only real question left is this: what could you do?
Ash, from all of us, we are unbelievably proud of you.

The Coach Behind the Comeback
None of this happened by accident. Every squat, every session, every small win along the way was guided by her coach, Nazrul, who met Ash exactly where she was and built her up step by step. He did not hand her a generic programme and hope for the best. He coached her, adjusted to her body, and kept her progressing safely from her very first bodyweight squat all the way to the REDLINE floor.
Great results are never just about the client. They are about the right client meeting the right coach. Ash brought the heart. Nazrul brought the plan. Together they pulled off something remarkable.
